I enjoy Sundays and maybe even some breakfast for dinner nights occasionally some weeknights.. One particular day, Addy asked me to allow her to make the pancakes on the griddle. Of course, everyone knows the answer was yes. She mixed up the pancake batter and poured the batter on the griddle. (please allow to digress discussing the griddle as one of the best inventions EVER right next to air.) Addy had progressed to flipping the pancakes over. LynToya came in and asked Addy what was she cooking. I saw a familiar trait that I face daily. Addy tried to flip the pancake and it fell on the table. Addy quickly tried to give me the spatula and wanted to fall back. I told her that in the process of making pancakes, sometimes that they are going to fall to ground, but we must never give up. She said “Never Ever Give Up” I said that right Boo.
The interesting fact is how setbacks are perceived as negative experiences as opposed to learning experiences. We affirm this truth to our kids, spouses, friends, and family however, when we drop a pancake we want to give the spatula up and opt for waffles in the toaster as opposed to pancakes on the griddle.
The greatest Teacher that ever existed said “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the Kingdom of God. “(Luke 9:62) We give up the kingdom when we affirm it is too hard, I can’t do, or my favorite “if it is meant to happen it will happen.” What we don’t realize that “it” our hopes and dreams, or visions and futures WILL NOT happen if we pass our spatulas away and say to another “You flip the pancakes because I made a mistake and am afraid to make another.” Mistakes have another name referred as learning opportunities. We learn to walk by falling, ride a bike by falling, and flip pancakes by allowing a couple to fall on the ground.
Call to Action
I want everyone to learn a little bit this week.
Make some mistakes, take a risk, learn and laugh about the result.
Please share show learning experiences that we are currenting going through. I promise you we all have them every day.
Have an inspirational week.
